At HTC Imaging, we offer a comprehensive medical evaluation known as a BODYSCAN. After all procedures are completed, we review your medical history and MRI and ultrasound screening results. Using MRI technology, we can detect aneurysms in the brain and aorta, tumors, and ischemic disease. Additionally, we perform spine screenings to identify nerve protrusion, herniation, compression fractures, scoliosis, and disc water content. Chest MRIs are used to diagnose nodules in the lungs, pleural fluid, and inflammatory heart disease such as pericarditis and myocarditis. We also screen for thoracic aortic aneurysm.
In the abdomen, we evaluate the liver, kidneys, gallbladder, pancreas, and spleen for masses. We also perform lumbar spine screenings to detect any disc disease between L1 and L5-S11 and evaluate the size and nodules of the prostate and urinary bladder. For women, we evaluate uterine fibroids, cervical lesions, ovarian cysts, or tumors. Additionally, we screen for breast lesions and breast implant leakage. Our screenings include five ultrasounds in conjunction with four MRIs of the brain, chest, abdomen, and pelvis.
We also evaluate the percentage of plaque in the carotid arteries and use echocardiograms, a noninvasive ultrasound procedure, to assess the heart’s function and structures. Coastal Heart and Velocity Research Institute cardiologists can provide appropriate treatment plans based on these evaluations. We offer abdominal ultrasounds to reevaluate six organs in the abdominal cavity further for any focal abnormalities or to evaluate fatty liver. Pelvic ultrasounds are used to reevaluate the uterus and ovaries for endometrium thickness, ovarian cysts, and intrauterine fibroids. Finally, we perform a soft tissue neck evaluation to assess the thyroid and lymph nodes.
We email all official reports to patients and their primary doctors. Patients will also receive all images of MRI and ultrasound on DVD the same day. MRI and ultrasound procedures are noninvasive and have no radiation side effects. No contrast dye is used, and fasting for four hours is required (water is okay). The total time for a BODYSCAN at HTC Imaging is 60 minutes.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the body uses a powerful magnetic field, radio waves and a computer to produce detailed pictures of the inside of your body. Doctors may use it to help diagnose or monitor treatment for a variety of conditions within the chest, abdomen, and pelvis. If you are pregnant, the doctor may use body MRI to safely monitor your baby.
Tell your doctor about any health problems, recent surgeries, or allergies and whether there’s a possibility you are pregnant. The magnetic field is not harmful, but it may cause some medical devices to malfunction. Most orthopedic implants pose no risk, but you should always tell the technologist if you have any devices or metal in your body. Guidelines about eating and drinking before your exam vary between facilities. Unless your doctor says otherwise, take your regular medications as usual. You should remove all jewelry, avoid wearing makeup, and wear loose, comfortable clothing. Most MRI facilities will ask that you change to a hospital gown. Some clothing may contain metallic fibers which cannot be worn inside the MRI. If you have claustrophobia or anxiety, you may want to ask your doctor for a mild sedative prior to the exam. If you take any relaxation medication, you should make sure you have a ride home.
High-quality images depend on your ability to remain still and follow breath-holding instructions while the technologist records the images. If you are anxious, confused or in severe pain, you may find it difficult to lie still during the MRI and the image quality will suffer. A large person may not fit into certain types of MRI machines. There are weight limits on the scanners. Implants and other metallic objects can make it difficult to obtain clear images. Patient movement can have the same effect. A large amount of ascites fluid in the abdomen/pelvis can also create artifact that results in low-quality MR images. If you cannot hold your breath, some MRI exams may be of limited quality as the pictures will be blurry. An MRI exam typically costs more and may take more time than other imaging exams. Talk to your insurance provider if you have concerns about the cost of MRI.
